Does OpenStack Stack Up for the Enterprise?
Since Linux changed the paradigm for open source software in enterprise environments, IT leaders have seriously considered the advantages of open source. With pressure to reduce capital costs, any solution that avoids the “technology tax” associated with licenses and costly proprietary systems is attractive. Small wonder, then, that there is intense interest in open source cloud technologies like OpenStack and KVM (kernel-based virtual machine) within forward-looking enterprises. But many IT leaders are asking the same question: Is OpenStack ready to take on enterprise applications? The short answer is: It depends.

Ensuring High Availability and Resiliency in OpenStack for NFV
Today Telcos are looking to use OpenStack for NFV. While OpenStack supports basic levels of availability it does not support service continuity and stateful fault tolerance. This is a major concern for the Telcos. By inserting a Virtualized Cloud Resilience Layer that transparently brings Telco reliability to any cloud application, Telcos can use OpenStack with the confidence that any application can be deployed with selectable levels of availability, including stateful fault tolerance with geo-redundancy, without required code changes.

Five Ways to Prepare for the Enterprise Cloud
Many organizations recognize the benefits of cloud computing, including potential cost efficiencies and greater scalability. But the cloud landscape is still relatively immature and must continue to evolve and grow before enterprises will be confident enough to host their most critical applications there. While a promising technology, there are barriers to widespread adoption that are particularly challenging for the enterprise. In particular, large organizations need to know that their applications, once migrated to the cloud, will still function with the same level of availability they would expect from a robust in-house legacy data center. With this in mind, Jason Andersen, senior director of product management and marketing at Stratus Technologies, explores how enterprises can ease into the cloud without putting their most important applications at risk of a costly failure

Stratus Technologies Helps Boost the Efficiency and Fault Tolerance of NFV
A common concern as a network operator moves to software is – how to ensure the hardware solution has the necessary fault tolerance (FT) or at least high availability (HA). One option in the world of stateful HA is to have 1+1 redundancy which means utilization rates of 45-50% or less. The challenge of course is software telcos are supposed to become much nimbler and lower their costs in order to compete with OTT. OTS hardware is relatively cheap but if you don’t need to double the cost, your telco is in a better financial situation. Enter Stratus Technologies – the company that was one of the pioneers in the fault tolerant server business back in the eighties along with Tandem Computers. In fact Stratus was launched in Mass along with many of big computer companies of the day like DEC, Wang and Prime.
