| Features | Benefits |
Heterogeneous any-to-any connectivity from desktop to mainframe. The MQSeries product overcomes the connectivity problems of different systems which use different message formats, communications protocols, etc. |
MQSeries product allows businesses to integrate disparate islands of automation. |
Comprehensive platform support. Over 35 platforms are fully supported including the AIX, HP-UX®, OS/2 Warp, Sun Solaris, and Windows NT® platforms. |
A high degree of flexibility and choice in integrating VOS more widely in the enterprise environment. |
Programmers do not have to write communication code in their applications. |
Programmers can concentrate on the design and coding of business applications. |
MQ Messaging uses a very limited set of calls. There are just two basic calls-MQPUT and MQGET-that programs use to put messages on queues and take them from queues. The remaining calls (fewer than 10) are used infrequently or are optional. In addition, they are consistent from one environment to another. |
The MQI is simple to master and easy to use. |
There are no constraints on program-to-program relationships. Messaging and Queuing programs operate independently of each other. |
All the programs that make up a distributed application can run concurrently and their structure and operation can change without dismantling the whole application. Programs are easier to update and can be adapted more readily to meet new business requirements. |
Product description:
The IBM MQSeries family is an open, scalable messaging and information infrastructure that provides a means of integrating business processes.
The MQSeries family is the market leader in commercial messaging. It provides time-independent messaging between applications and systems, and also allows rapid application integration.
Briefly, the MQSeries products enable programs to talk to each other across a network of unlike components - processors, operating systems, subsystems, and communication protocols - using a simple and consistent application programming interface.
The MQSeries products consist of three major components:
- MQSeries Server
- MQSeries Queue Manager
- MQSeries Client
On VOS, the MQSeries Client is supported. For the MQSeries Client software to operate properly, an MQSeries Server and Queue Manager must be installed and operational on one or more companion server platforms.
An MQSeries client can be installed on its own, on a separate machine from the Server and Queue Manager, which must be a system that supports these components. These include UNIX® Systems, OS/2, Windows NT®, OS/400, and MVS/ESA.
Three key facts about Messaging and Queuing differentiate it from other communication styles:
- Communicating programs can run at different times.
- There are no constraints on application structure.
- Programs are insulated from network complexities.
