Ensuring high availability for critical electronic medical record software

Allegheny County Emergency Services 9-1-1 Division

Allegheny County’s Emergency Services 9-1-1 Division handles 4,500 to 5,000 calls for police, fire and EMS dispatch services each day. Preventing unplanned downtime was a non-negotiable criterion in the county’s RFP process, and a primary reason for installing Stratus ftServer systems. At the County’s primary site, two CAD applications run in virtual machines (VMs) on one ftServer system while a second ftServer system supports the Microsoft SQL CAD database. The overflow/disaster recovery site mirrors primary-site operations in near real-time and can take over complete operations in a very short period of time.

Alunorf

Alunorf, the world’s largest aluminium rolling and casting plant, set out to find a replacement IT system that would handle the management and control of both its pit and pusher furnaces – manufacturing 1.5 million tonnes of aluminium rolls every year.  Stratus® ftServer® stepped in to secure the production process with continuous availability.

Ambulance Service of New South Wales

The Ambulance Service of New South Wales is the third largest in the world responding to a request for assistance every 28 seconds; that’s over one million calls per year. Downtime is not an option. They must be operational 24x7. Their primary data center supports four dispatch centers. Additionally, they maintain a mirrored disaster recovery site. They chose Stratus ftServers because they are field-proven to provide the highest achievable levels of uptime and are easier to manage than alternative solutions.

AREU

In order to achieve the unification and coordination of all EMS activities throughout the region, AREU’s main objective is to foster constant improvements in the skillsets of its staff, in business processes, organization, technology and knowledge. In 2009 AREU was also responsible for launching 112 European Emergency Number services in Italy by strategically deploying three 1st level PSAPs within the territory. AREU selected Beta 80’s emma/iO CAD platform running on fault-tolerant ftServer systems from Stratus.

Aristrocrat Technologies

Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, Aristocrat is a manufacturer of gaming hardware and global leader in the development of software-based sophisticated gaming products for use by casinos around the world. Aristocrat uses Stratus everRun Software to prevent the database application from experiencing any downtime and ensure that the games and the jackpots can continue to be managed.
