everRun Trial FAQs

What is the primary goal of everRun Enterprise?
Eliminate application downtime caused by hardware or network failures.

What port size is best for everRun Enterprise systems that run fault-tolerant VMs?
10 GB ports should be added to handle the synchronization traffic between nodes.

What are the supported guest operating systems?
Stratus has qualified our platform with a large number of Windows and Linux-based operating systems.

What is the minimum network ports required per physical server?
Two

What method does everRun Enterprise fault-tolerant VMs use to provide continuous availability protection?
Check pointing

What is the key function of SplitSite?
Provides capability of geographically separating a physical server pair.

What is the minimum everRun Enterprise memory requirement?
8 GB, but should be adjusted based VM resource requirements.

Can I install everRun Enterprise on dissimilar physical x86 servers?
Yes, but the configuration will be based upon the lowest common denominator.

Does everRun Enterprise support out-of band management tools?
Yes

What do everRun Enterprise availability extensions work behind the scenes to perform?
I/O redirection
Data synchronization
Provide HA and FT protection to VMs

What is the key reason that you would want to install both everRun Enterprise nodes at a single site without the quorum service?
Simple and quick deployment method for product evaluations or trade show systems.

Before you begin installing everRun Enterprise software what do you need to check first?
Verify that your BIOS settings and storage/RAID configuration are correct.

What is maximum A-Link network latency allowed between nodes for HA VMs?
10 ms

What is Quorum?
Third-party used for arbitration when communication failures occur between two nodes
Service that runs on a Windows machine
Service accessible to BOTH nodes over the management network

What are the system requirements to run the quorum service software?
An always on non-dedicated Windows PC or server
Connection to management network
100 MB of free disk space

Can the quorum service software be a VM within the same everRun system that uses it?
NO

In order to create and start virtual machines you need to?
Upload a validated license key.

What is the most critical factor in the successful operation of everRun Enterprise?
The proper number and speed of network adapters.

What is the best practice minimum requirements of disks per server?
Two with hardware RAID protection.

What are the post install configuration steps for everRun Enterprise?
Set the system IP address and configure event notification.

What does SplitSite do?
Provides availability when a single site fails.

What does SplitSite accomplish?
Maintains continuous availability across nodes located in two different locations.

What are the main SplitSite network considerations?
Network devices must use the same MAC address
No single points of failure
A-Links use non-routable IPv6

What are the A-Link performance specifications for everRun Enterprise running an FT VM?
1 Gbps minimum and 2 ms maximum roundtrip latency.

What are the benefits of Quorum?
Prevents Split Brain (even when not in a SplitSite configuration).

What are the Quorum server requirements?
Always powered on (hibernate/sleep disabled).

How does Quorum work?
VMs from each node elect a common Quorum server. Upon a total network failure, both nodes attempt to contract the elected Quorum Server. Node0 and/or Node1 will continue to run VMs in simplex mode until communications between the nodes is restored.
