Keep Critical Applications Up and Running – Regardless of Operating System

Stratus brings the confidence of rock-solid uptime to the Microsoft® Windows®, Red Hat® Enterprise Linux®, and VMware® vSphere operating systems. Virtually any application for these operating environments will run unchanged on a supported Stratus server.

Microsoft Windows Operating System

The Stratus ftServer Series family supports Windows Server 2008. Reliability improvements in newer Windows releases have brought a level of reliability to the operating system that is consistent with the system reliability of the fault-tolerant ftServer systems. Stratus enhances the standard Windows operating system environment with unique failsafe software features, but does not modify the base Windows operating system or compromise compatibility in any way. All ftServer models have passed the testing required to receive the “Designed for Microsoft Windows” logo and are listed on Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). This testing ensures that ftServer systems are fully compatible with the Windows operating system and virtually any Windows-compatible application. All Stratus-enhanced device drivers are also tested and receive digital signatures to guarantee full Windows compatibility.

Stratus will pre-install Windows Server 2008 at the factory if the software is purchased from Stratus. Optionally, customers may purchase their own copy of Windows and use the ftServer System Software CD to install the Windows operating system along with Stratus failsafe software enhancements. Stratus tests and integrates Microsoft Windows Service Packs as they are released and also provides testing and guidance for use of Microsoft Hotfixes.

Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Operating System

The Stratus® ftServer family brings 99.999-plus percent availability to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. Stratus enhances the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system environment with unique failsafe software features, but does not modify the base Linux operating system or compromise compatibility in any way – the fault tolerant technology resides in the Stratus system software and in Stratus-designed chipsets. Virtually any application for the Linux operating environment will run unchanged on a supported Stratus fault-tolerant server.

ftServer systems have passed the testing required to receive the Red Hat Certified Hardware platform certification. View the Red Hat Hardware Catalog reference to Stratus on Red Hat website. This testing ensures that ftServer systems are fully compatible with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system and all Red Hat certified applications, bringing thousands of open-source and over 1,800 commercial applications to the platform. View the Red Hat Software catalog on Red Hat website.

Stratus will pre-install Red Hat Enterprise Linux at the factory if the software subscription is purchased from Stratus. Alternatively, customers may purchase their own software subscription of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and use the ftServer System Software for Linux OS CD to install the operating system along with Stratus failsafe software enhancements.

VMware® vSphere Operating System

Virtualized environments need the uptime assurance of the Stratus ftServer architecture more than ever.  When multiple critical apps are virtualized onto the same physical server, you need the confidence that the server won’t let you down.

ftServer extends VMware virtualization capabilities to the most demanding application environments. From the heart of the data center to key workloads at the edge, Stratus ftServer systems help customers achieve full resource utilization and maximum flexibility.

In addition to the availability features of vSphere, Stratus ftServer systems offer “Full-Function Fault Tolerance:”

  • Purpose-built hardware designed on industry-standard components for fault-tolerance from the ground up.
  • Full-multi-core SMP available to all virtual machines for maximum performance.
  • 24/7 real-time support, single point of contact with extensive diagnostics providing root-cause analysis — without any outage or downtime.
  • Drop-in, transparent fault tolerance with no additional network, storage, or management requirements.
