orb2 is both an architecture and a suite of products. orb2 is the new name for LiveContent Broker and is now owned by 2AB and sold by Stratus. It allows VOS to interoperate with Microsoft^®, UNIX^® and mainframe applications. It can integrate multiple legacy systems in a customer environment in a non-disruptive manner while allowing for growth in the future.

It is an ORB (Object Request Broker) based on CORBA (Common Object Request BROKER Architecture). The CORBA standard, in turn, is developed and maintained by the OMG (Object Management Group), an industry consortium with over 750 member organizations.

As a suite of products, it is a collection of software tools for creating distributed applications, particularly ones distributed among disparate hardware and software systems.
