DataWise software, developed by Insession Technologies and distributed by Insession and Stratus, enables you to extract data from Stratus systems and replicate it to target systems throughout your enterprise. So you're not only able to protect data, but also put it to work with built-in functions that allow flexible efficient, and reliable data replication. This provides attractive options for hot-site backups, data warehouses, and decision support systems.
Key features and benefits
Product description
DataWise data replication: Key features and benefits
- The ability to duplicate VOS data, on a near real-time basis, to other VOS and non-VOS systems.
- All duplication is performed with minimal performance impact on the existing application.
- No writing of code is required. All duplication is handled through configuration files.
- DataWise is unaffected by network outages. If communication lines are unavailable, all replicated data is saved to a log file and forwarded to the target system once the lines become available again.

Updates and replicates to target databases automatically. |
Allows VOS to interoperate with non-VOS databases without porting the database or changing file formats. |
No code changes required. |
Saves programmer time; reduces opportunities for introducing errors; reduces costs. |
Near real-time online replication |
Minimizes downtime in a disaster recovery situation; reduces cost of recovery; reduces performance impact for an application. |
Selects specific files for extraction and replication. |
Reduces cost by selecting only the critical elements that need to be replicated. |
Replicates file information continuously to a remote system. |
Minimizes any data corruption opportunities; reduces cost in a recovery situation. |
Mirrors to remote offsite disks. |
Allows for a business continuity/disaster recovery operation. |
Supports Continuum and XA/R VOS platforms. |
Allows more flexibility in the VOS environment; allows older systems, which are currently used in environments requiring off-site mirroring, to benefit from the recovery capability. |
Replicates sequential, relative, fixed, streamed and transaction protected files. |
All VOS file structures are supported. |
Independent extraction and replication. |
Source application is never impacted by Target communication downtime. |
Sequence numbers generated with each production system I/O guarantees same order issuance on remote system. |
Source application transaction sequence is guaranteed on target. |
Effective hot-site backups. |
Allows Stratus system to participate in a more effective business continuity/disaster recovery environment by enhancing the capabilities at the remote site. |
Populating decision support systems. |
Mission-critical VOS data is made available throughout the organization. |
Product description:
DataWise replicates data from the Stratus VOS to supported target platforms. This replication can follow one of the two paths described below.
- DataWise records data changes by intercepting a file I/O as it occurs, and re-directing the information for forwarding to a target system. The original I/O is always executed and is minimally impacted.
- A replication process monitors a specified sequential file or queue. As records are written, they are read from the file/queue and forwarded to the Target system.
Target platforms that are currently supported are:
- VOS-to-VOS bi-directional, data and file replication
- Supported non-VOS platforms include ftServer and Windows2000, Microsoft NT, Unix, IBM Mainframe and AS400, DEC VMS, Tandem, and Linux.
- Supported databases on non-VOS platforms include Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, Tandem NS SQL and Enscribe, and any ODBC-compliant Database.
No code changes are required to run DataWise. The only changes required are bind file modifications (along with a re-binding) of any process that will be using the DataWise intercepts.
On the non-VOS platform, E/R converts, maps, and selects data from production VOS records according to a wide variety of user-specified criteria, without requiring a single line of code to be written.
In addition, DataWise and E/R now provide the capability to move data back to VOS from Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase, providing end-to-end, bi-directional data-sharing capabilities.
