Product description:
The Apache web server is the most popular web server on the internet. Over 58% of all web servers, more than 3 million at last count, use Apache.
The name, "Apache" derives from its origins. It was first developed as a series of patches to the NCSA (National Center for Supercomputer Applications) httpd 1.3 web server, and was informally named "A PatCHy server". The first stable release, V1.0, was released on 1 December, 1995. This was essentially the NCSA 1.3 server with a number of fixes and enhancements.
The Apache web server is "Open-source" software, which means that the source code is freely available for downloading and porting to a number of operating environments. In fact, it has been ported to a number of operating systems, including the UNIX variants HP/UX, BSD, Solaris, Linux, AIX, Windows 2000, NT, 95/98, Mac OS X, VMS, OS/2 and others.
Apache for VOS is a direct port of Apache 1.3.12. It enables users or Systems Administrators to operate a web server on a Continuum system running VOS.
