Transparent Fault-Tolerance

Minimizing our customers' business risk is very important to us. We have designed our Stratus Continuum line with the most simplistic approach possible. The simplicity of the Stratus^® Continuum^® platform provides continuous availability right from "the box". Transparent fault tolerance is built right into the system. Our customers are guaranteed long-term investment protection, migration paths to higher performance and a portfolio with more than 15,000 applications that can be used immediately to keep them competitive.

Since Continuum systems provide failure detection and recovery at the hardware level, there is no need for application or system software to change in any way when running on a Continuum system. Any HP-UX^® based application can run unchanged in a Stratus environment. Continuum fault-tolerance is completely transparent to application developers and system administrators. There are no scripts to be written and no failure testing to be done. Software can simply be loaded and run on a Stratus Continuum system to achieve immediate fault-tolerance. Stratus fault-tolerant systems complement HP^® UNIX^® for applications requiring fault-tolerant WAN communications, critical in-memory data or sub-second failover time.

In addition, operation of a Continuum system is virtually identical to a stand- alone HP-9000 server. There is no added complexity of administering a multi-node cluster.

The Stratus and Hewlett-Packard^® sales organizations team together to provide a full range of availability options on HP-UX. Therefore, the Stratus Continuum products can be purchased through any existing HP Product Channel or from Stratus directly.
