Client:

With two hospital campuses and an outpatient facility in Northwest Indiana, Methodist Hospitals, Inc. is the leading healthcare provider in its region.

Challenge:

End users answered “zero” when asked how much data loss and recovery time could be tolerated if the hospitals’ healthcare information system were to be disrupted. That dictated stringent recovery point (RPO) and recovery time (RTO) objectives for a MEDITECH Health Care Information System that would form a vital piece of a complete IT infrastructure upgrade. Along with exacting healthcare business continuance goals and specific budget parameters, there was another requirement: to implement clinical as well as non-clinical applications on a rollout schedule of approximately one year.

Solution:

The ambitious timeframe led Methodist’s IT organization to engage JJWild, a Perot Systems company that combines technology and application consulting expertise to deliver comprehensive solutions to the MEDITECH community. Next came selecting the server platform. StratusÒ ftServerÒ systems are “medical grade” servers that ensure 99.999% or greater, or five nines, uptime. Individual components within these servers operate in parallel with each other, providing automatic redundancy, active system monitoring and automated issue notification.

Result:

Some 22 MEDITECH clinical, financial and administrative modules are being rolled out as part of the Health Care Information System at Methodist Hospitals. “All in all, working with JJWild and Stratus has been a very good partnership for Methodist,” stated Shaw Collins, the hospitals’ director of IT and Telecommunications. “It’s helped us save a lot of money, it helped us stay on track from a time perspective, it helped us implement new solutions and get the appropriate training.”
