ftSSS contributes to fault-tolerant features of Stratus ftServer T Series systems

Working together with Stratus hardware and service, the Stratus ftServer System Software (ftSSS) implements the fault-tolerant features of Stratus ftServer T Series systems. This allows virtually any application for the Linux Operating environment to run unchanged on a supported Stratus fault-tolerant server. ftSSS and Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® are preinstalled on all newly delivered ftServer T Series systems. An installable distribution CD-ROM (CD) set is also provided.

Features of ftServer System Software for the Linux OS

Software Feature Description
Rapid Disk Resynchronization (RDR)

Improved availability through faster re-mirroring of disks: full resynchronization of data disks can be as much as 6 times faster when using RDR

Continuous monitoring and repair of bad disk blocks: an RDR utility will continuously sweep the disks for bad blocks, fix them and update the mirror, without interruption to the system.

RAID1 Management Automation

Supports hot addition/removal of RAID partitions.

External Storage Multi-path I/O Support

Supports dynamic addition and removal of path to the external storage as I/O Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) is inserted or pulled and also when a Host Bus Adapter is brought into or taken out of service

Driver Hardening

Supports surprise removal and insertions as I/O CRU leave and enter service

Video and Console failover

Supports VGA-based console failover in text and graphics modes (X11-server)

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

The Stratus SNMPv3-compliant Simple Network Management Protocol supports the Stratus ftMIB (fault-tolerant Management Information Base), enabling system administrators to monitor and filter events such as the addition or removal of devices and alarm generation.

Environmental Monitoring

Allows users and applications such as SNMP to monitor environmental changes for sensors and devices via ftsmaint, the Stratus fault-tolerant system maintenance interface.

System Maintenance

ftsmaint is a command-line interface program that allows users to obtain system inventories and perform administrative tasks on the local server.
