Powerful system performance:

Stratus Continuum systems achieve their high performance in a continuously available system by combining the power of RISC technology with Stratus' proven fault-tolerant architecture. High performance is achieved by integrating powerful PA-RISC processors with advanced system-level design concepts, including symmetric multiprocessing, fast onboard memory, and dedicated I/O processors.

Guaranteed continuous availability:

Continuum addresses all aspects of system design necessary for continuous availability, making availability effortless and transparent. Duplex, self-checking hardware and self-checking logic minimize the chances of unplanned system downtime. Plus, Stratus' design eliminates routine planned downtime by allowing online service and system administration.

Expandability:

The Stratus architecture makes it very easy to expand a system incrementally as system needs increase. All models within each Continuum Series - 600 and 1200 - use the same system logic cabinet; most are upgradable online simply by swapping or adding processor boards. The Series 600 includes six slots in the main chassis; the Series 1200 offers 12 slots in the main chassis.

The design of the memory, disk, and I/O subsystems also makes incremental growth very easy. The Continuum family supports up to a maximum of two logical RISC processors, 4 GB of duplex memory, 95 duplexed disks, and 84 I/O adapters.

A wide range of communications support:

A comprehensive set of communications functionality is provided, including industry-standard wide-area and local-area networking, terminal connectivity, and industry-specific protocol support.

Industry-standard databases:

Users may choose from a number of industry-standard online databases, including Oracle, Sybase, and Informix.

Compatibility:

The Continuum family is binary compatible among all models. In addition, strict source-code compatibility is maintained throughout Stratus' entire product line, including the RISC-based XA/R product families, thereby protecting existing software investments.
