MAYNARD, Mass., July 11, 2006 – Stratus Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has become a partner in the Mainframe Migration Alliance (MMA), joining with Microsoft Corp. and other key industry partners to help companies migrate mission-critical enterprise applications from their proprietary mainframe computers onto smaller, flexible and cost-effective systems running Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
"Stratus has real-world experience helping clients move from the proprietary mainframe world to open systems, and membership in the MMA allows us to leverage our core competency – providing servers and solutions for continuous availability of mission-critical business operations," said Greg Enriquez, Stratus senior vice president of field operations. "We are extremely pleased to be a member of the alliance, and we look forward to contributing to its mission and benefiting from the expertise of the other members."
Using Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft .NET technology, the MMA helps clients migrate their applications to the Windows platform, permitting them to benefit from open systems technology and the flexibility it affords.
"Moving off the mainframe is a complex and potentially disruptive exercise that can freeze IT management into inaction, regardless of how compelling the ROI and associated benefits are," said Enriquez. "Leaving well enough alone may be the path of least resistance for IT, but it exposes business operations to enormous competitive risk and excessive costs."
Working cooperatively with Microsoft since 1999, Stratus was first to introduce servers to the marketplace for fault-tolerant computing in a Windows operating environment. Stratus® ftServer® systems are used today to run high-value Windows application for customers globally in financial services, banking, telecommunications, public safety, federal government, and a range of other industries. Stratus server lines have consistently delivered field-proven uptime reliability in excess of 99.999% in continuous operation.
"We welcome Stratus Technologies to the Mainframe Migration Alliance," said Spyros Sakellariadis, director, Mainframe Alliance Program at Microsoft Corp. "With Stratus Technologies’ deep industry know-how, we are confident they will provide value to existing MMA members and customers to help move mission-critical applications from expensive mainframe systems to the more agile and cost-effective Windows platform."
