New ftServer T60 system delivers fault-tolerant Linux® to the data center
MAYNARD, Mass., Dec. 5, 2005 – Stratus Technologies, Inc. announced today the first pairing of its Continuous Processing® technology with the world’s most widely used distribution of the Linux® operating system. Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® AS on Stratus’ new data center-class ftServer® T60 system offers customers 99.999 percent uptime reliability for mission-critical Linux applications. The ftServer T60 system, an Intel® XeonTM 2- to 4-way SMP server, is ideally suited for database, CRM and ERP applications in the data center or for converged network services, hosted IP and enterprise telephony in telecommunications.
The entire Stratus® T Series family now supports Red Hat-certified applications. The ftServer T30 CO system is a NEBSTM Level 3-certified server that provides affordable fault tolerance for a broad range of telecom applications in mobile, landline, circuit, packet, and converged networks. The ftServer T30 AC system is a non-NEBS fault-tolerant platform for Linux business and enterprise telephony solutions from Red Hat’s extensive ecosystem of ISV partners and customers. Virtually any application for the Linux operating environment will run unchanged and unmodified on a supported Stratus fault-tolerant server.
According to a recent report from IDC, the Linux OS portion of the worldwide high-availability server market is the fastest growing, with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 63 percent through 2008. The total worldwide HA server market has a CAGR of 14.8 percent through the same period.
“Mission-critical Linux is only possible when the underlying hardware platform is unrelentingly reliable, and that’s a quality the marketplace has been demanding,” said Greg Enriquez, Stratus senior vice president, Worldwide Field Operations. “Our first branded Linux based on the Red Hat distribution, coupled with the field-proven performance of our ftServer platform, makes this the right place and the right time for the T60 system.”
Continuous Processing® Technology
Like all ftServer models, the T Series server line uses replicated, fault-tolerant hardware to eliminate single points of failure and protect data integrity. The use of Continuous Processing® technology ensures superior uptime and eliminates operational complexity and higher costs inherent in high-availability alternatives. Hardware-based fault tolerance requires no failover scripting, repeated test procedures, or application modification to ensure applications availability or smooth integration of systems into the IT or network infrastructure. Open, portable Linux applications can now run unchanged and unmodified on carrier-grade, continuously available servers.
The ftServer T60, T30 CO and T30 AC are offered with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4, update 2, based on 2.6 kernel. The company will make Red Hat Linux available on future ftServer systems, as well. In addition to the Red Hat distribution, Stratus currently has Intel-based platforms supporting Miracle Linux (Japan) and its own ft Linux operating system distribution, in addition to Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 and the Stratus VOS operating system.
