Danish division of TeliaSonera gives Stratus lead role in integrating hardware, software and services

MAYNARD, Mass., Oct. 3, 2005 – The Danish division of Nordic-Baltic telecommunications company TeliaSonera Group has chosen Stratus Technologies, Inc. to build the integrated solution the company will use to offer advanced voice and data services to its nearly two million Danish customers, Stratus announced today.

The $1.8 million contract gives Stratus project management responsibility including: providing the server hardware; developing applications and middleware; establishing a test facility; training staff; integrating all vendors’ hardware and software; and supporting the solutions. The integrated solution will sit above TeliaSonera Denmark’s existing switching layer, as opposed to the expensive and time-consuming alternative of replacing the switching layer. The Stratus-built platform will give TeliaSonera Denmark the flexibility to roll out new services. TeliaSonera will be able to offer its business and residential customers new products and services in just days and weeks instead of months and years, which will help retain existing customers and attract new ones.

"We needed an experienced solution partner who is able to understand our application development needs and how to build in the kind of reliability our customers expect," said Ian Berg, Telia Networks director, Voice Operations & Development. "Stratus has 20 years of experience in telecommunications so we felt confident they had the knowledge of reliability and application functionality we need for this initiative to succeed."

The platform’s foundation will be five Stratus® ftServer® T Series T30 NEBSTM Level 3-certified fault-tolerant servers running the Linux operating system and SINAP® (Stratus Intelligent Network Applications Platform) carrier-grade signaling software. The Stratus ftServer T Series is an open, affordable Continuous Processing® server platform designed especially for telecommunications service providers. They feature replicated, fault-tolerant hardware to ensure exceptional uptime reliability, eliminate single points of failure and protect data integrity.

By building this solution for TeliaSonera in Denmark, Stratus is meeting a need shared by every company in the telecommunications industry.

"TeliaSonera in Denmark is in a situation familiar to many telco providers: how to transition from the current generation of GSM (general system for mobile communications) telco services to next-generation services without sacrificing investments in their existing switching infrastructure," said Ali Kafel, Stratus’ vice president of telecom sales and business development. "They need the flexibility of a server-based architecture so they can keep pace with market changes. At the same time, they need the service quality that comes from a continuously available platform. Our experience in telecommunications service delivery platforms makes us a solid choice to pull together the hardware, software and service components to meet those needs."
