Ticker plant software deployed on new fault-tolerant server for Linux operating system

MAYNARD, Mass., Feb. 28, 2005 -Stratus Technologies, Inc. announced today that the Boston Stock Exchange has chosen the Continuous Processing® abilities of the Stratus® ftServer® T Series system and the new Linux® version of Market Access® ticker plant software from Market Systems Technology (MST) to increase the speed and capacity of high-volume, real-time processing of time-critical market data. BSE is making the investment to ensure its ability to handle ever-increasing volumes of available market data, as well as to accommodate new products and services of value to its client base.

For the more than 200 regional, national and international dealer/brokers it serves, BSE provides direct access to market data, reducing dramatically the time delays common to services provided by data providers who collect, aggregate, and retransmit information to subscribers. The Exchange, which now operates its ticker plant application on hardware from Stratus and software from MST, chose to upgrade the complete solution by investing in the newest open-systems technology offered by both suppliers. BSE plans deployment of the system in spring 2005.

"The Exchange prides itself on applying state-of-the-art technologies as a key aspect of our commitment to deliver outstanding client services," said Yann L'Huillier, vice president of Trading Systems. "This ticker plant application may well be the first Linux OS implementation of its kind on an industry-standard fault-tolerant server, and it equips us to improve and enhance services to member firms well into the future."

The new ticker plant solution delivers the uptime reliability, performance, processing speed, and expansion headroom that BSE demands. A single Market Access system can support hundreds of exchange feeds and data sources, and process more than 100,000 messages per second with near-zero transmission latency. The Stratus ftServer T Series, with its field-proven uptime reliability of more the 99.999 percent, ensures that the application and market data are available 24/7. The combined MST/Stratus solution is a cost-effective replacement for existing ticker systems that may be difficult to maintain and upgrade, and strained by increasing data volumes. Its affordability also makes this solution suitable for hedge funds, banks, broker/dealers and others who can benefit from receiving market data quickly and reliably.

Originally designed for the fault-tolerant performance needs of next-generation networks in the telecommunications industry, the Intel-based ftServer T Series system with the ft LinuxTM operating system is now available as an enterprise server. Market Systems Technology software products are among the first non-telco applications available on this new platform. MST applications are also available on Stratus server lines for Windows and VOS operating environments.
