  • Allegheny County Emergency Services 9-1-1 Division

Allegheny County’s Emergency Services 9-1-1 Division handles 4,500 to 5,000 calls for police, fire and EMS dispatch services each day. Preventing unplanned downtime was a non-negotiable criterion in the county’s RFP process, and a primary reason for installing Stratus ftServer systems. At the County’s primary site, two CAD applications run in virtual machines (VMs) on one ftServer system while a second ftServer system supports the Microsoft SQL CAD database. The overflow/disaster recovery site mirrors primary-site operations in near real-time and can take over complete operations in a very short period of time.

  • High Availability Without the Complexity of Clusters: An Analysts' Approach

IT has often turned to various types of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) technologies to assure that its solutions don't fail.  Unfortunately, these are often very complex and can be quite costly.  This paper considers the problem, and compares alternative sofware solutions.

  • Next-Generation 9-1-1 Technology Migration Guide

Texting has become a preferred mode of communication—and not just for teenagers. According to a 2011 Pew Internet survey, 73% of cell phone users text, and nearly one-third of them would rather text than talk. Given this significant trend, it’s critical that the 9-1-1 infrastructure catch up so today’s mobile users can easily report emergencies via text messages, photos, and/or videos. That’s what Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) is all about. Download our white paper, “What You Need to Know about Migrating to Next Generation 9-1-1 Technology,” to find out what’s involved in upgrading your Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to NG9-1-1.

  • Server Virtualization in Manufacturing

Learn the best practices to put in place as you virtualize your mission critical manufacturing applications.

  • The Role of Fault-Tolerant Servers in Protecting Virtualized Applications

Available downtime protection options range from adding no additional protection other than that offered by general-purpose servers to deploying applications on fault-tolerant hardware. Which option you choose will depend on the type of application in question. If the application is mission-critical, then you’ll need higher levels of protection. A strong segment of companies are choosing to protect each of their mission critical applications with fault-tolerant servers because they provide the highest availability, require no specialized IT skills, and are now priced within reach of even small to mid-size companies. Looking for guidance in choosing the right downtime protection for your “can’t fail” applications?
